They are everywhere- sometimes hidden and sometimes open. They are a mixed blessing- good that they help streamline the waste; bad that they are not maintained properly. Yes, it is the sewers and the drains i am talking about. Those channels or pipelines or drainage lines that are found everywhere in this urban world. Have you ever wondered about their purpose of existence and what they actually are today? I don't blame you if you haven't given it a thought. You are all busy with so many things just like how there are so many dirt particles found running through the sewer lines. Aren't you? Take a moment for yourself and you'll know how true my previous statement is. All that matters to us is today and this moment. Be it good or bad, we do not take time to think about the future (the future here to be specific is about the next generation).
How many of us have the habit of actually noticing the state of the drains in our locality? How many of us have the habit of informing the local body about any issue(s) with these drains? Most of all, how many localities actually have a properly designed and maintained drainage system? There are many questions but the answers for which can be obtained only when we take a moment for each question sometime soon.
This post happened partly due to the variety i wanted to keep up with my postings(LOL. i ended up with the drain rather than in the drain) and partly because of something that i had been thinking over when i go out in my bicycle and when i came across the monsoon days and the state of the sewers in my locality. Everywhere the situation remained the same. The size, design, maintenance and state of these drains made me angry that my tax money has been spent so inefficiently and it made me laugh because of the shapes it took and the sizes it was made in. A drain should serve the purpose on any day to drain the sewage or sometimes rain water. But, what are these drains? They are always full littered with bio-degradable and non bio-degradable waste which gives little or no room for the liquid waste to flow through. And, not to stop with that, every drain should be wide enough or say, spacious enough for the expected amount of waste to flow through. But, our brainy engineer who had designed it has given it a 'fortified' concrete wall but the actual width is too narrow that we find the sewer overflowing most of the time and our roads beautifully decorated with the waste flowing, criss-crossing the roads and making wonderful potholes and puddles that give life to many insects and bacteria to successfully invade our immunity and cause an epidemic in no time.
How great is this cycle? It seems to fascinate me as to how easily we have created a life cycle for harmful bacteria and disease causing agents. These sewers don't just cause problems to us but take it one step further to the next generation, making it far more worse for them to tackle the issue. We had good waterways, streams, rivers, lakes, ponds and quality underground water to tap and we have successfully polluted every molecule of water we could access. But, have we ever thought about the next generation? They will begin their game with already polluted resources. If we face a great deal of problem because of pollution, just imagine what impact will it have on the next generation and what would be the magnitude of the problems they are about to face? No a** in this planet is fit to escape with the word ignorance. If you are f**king intelligent enough to pollute it, you are f**king smart enough to take responsibility. You just can't walk off or expire signing out your existence from this planet just like that. Pull up your socks and better learn how not to pollute and how to save this fragile ecosystem. From now on, stop looking for those miscreants and stop trying to boss over them as if you saved the planet's a** from disaster. Take responsibility and make this a better place to live. I could pen down without those words but when you read it with them, the feel is different and am sure it will make an impact. By using those words, i don't intend to cause hurt or offend anyone. In fact, i am a part of the crowd and it applies to me too. I take responsibility. Do you?.... Again, it is a question and you get the answer only when you give it a moment. Captain planet? F**k! No! :-P I am just a level ahead than you because, i have thought about it and wrote about it, whereas, you are reading it only now! That makes the difference. Move ahead!
