Automobile companies are well-known for their line-up of their vehicles that are constantly revamped every year to stay alive in today's market. As the consumer's demands keeps getting more and more demanding, the companies need to revamp their strategies that align with the interests of the business and serving customers. With these lines, i get reminded of my management examination papers. But, that is not what this post is about. It is about a entry level performer that has made the companies and the buyers to think twice before they zero-in on their choice. The Bajaj way of thinking has always been business and customer service inter-twined. To align to this, they came out with a launch that has given us an all new segment and performer. Bajaj is known for its line-up of bikes ranging from 100cc to 220cc mills. The customer base thus spreads across all the age-groups and users who use it for daily commuting, touring, racing, stunts and you name it and there's a ride from bajaj to match it.
It has more than a year since the launch of this bikini ride that gets this name from the way its headlamp mask has been designed. Earlier, Bajaj was known for its scooters and Autorickshaws. Today, they stand competent enough to provide the Indian youth with the Pulsars that range from 150-220cc mills. But, the future, according to Bajaj strategy was well-anticipated and well thought of that they saw fuel price hikes, increasing vehicular traffic, inflation and everything else and came out with the launch of the Bajaj Pulsar 135 LS. This was a shock to many pulsar lovers as the mill was downsized to a mere 135cc as against an expected 250cc. I would actually call it right-sizing than downsizing. The mill has been perfectly set at 135 cc so that it sits comfortably between the 125cc and the higher models. Though its size has been reduced, the mill is a 4 Valve Dts-i engine that churns out 14Bhp and as ever, the power department has been dealt with justice by Bajaj to attract youngsters like always. The ride sports a R1 like tail, LED tail lamps perfectly sculpted with the high-raise tail, split seats, bikini style headlamps, pilot lamps neatly carved into the headlamp mask, 17-inch alloys with tubeless tyres, Twin sparks, sleek styling, neat placement of split style tyre huggers and the digital console goes in tune with the aggressive styling. The grab rails and the clip-ons are new to this segment and Bajaj has again done equal justice by adding the high-end features. The ride comes with a perfect LS(Light Sports) tag that matches the ride's performance figures and the segment. Available only in two shades, Bajaj has made it easy to choose from and also simplified its assembly line process. The scoops near the tanks that are engraved with the 4 valve logos are a perfect fit and doesn't look out of place like the ugly and useless Apaches from the TVS' handicapped stable. The arrow styled winkers add on to the compactness of the ride. The Rear View Mirrors are sharp in appearance and match the sharpness the ride sports at every curve on its body. The tank pads are a straight flick from the bigger pulsar brothers and the only thing that can raise complaints would be the exhaust's design. Taken from its sibling the XCD, it is the only improvement that is badly required for the ride.
Altogether, the ride is a perfect fit if one needs performance, economy, low maintenance costs and a quick and hassle-free ride through the city traffic. If you are looking for a tourer, this ain't the one you should be looking at as the steer quality would be pretty hard when you hit cruising speeds against the highway winds. Who knows? In a tight tug-off between the stunner and the 135 LS, i may end up with either of these sometime soon if and only if my treatment is fine and the fitness levels are a go.
